Planning and organizing are important parts of our life. Whether it is organizing the closet, cleaning the house, or even planning the week's activities with our children, unless we plan and organize, our life quickly fades into chaos.
Our bodies are not different. Without proper planning, and yes, even some organization, our health can quickly fade into a state of chaos, leaving us more fatigued, less energetic, and even causing a few more aches and pains. Moreover, if we are not careful, it can lead to a few extra pounds that compounds those problems.
However, regardless of our age, it doesn't have to be that way. Here are a few quick tips to help you plan for a healthier you and also help you achieve weight loss goals at the same time. These tips aren't the only way to achieve these goals, but they are an excellent to maximize results with small tweaks.
1. Drink Water Throughout The Day
Sixty percent (60%) of our bodies are made of water. There are a number of health benefits to drinking water. Essentially, it helps us feel better, and like oil to an vehicle, helps our body's most important functions properly do their jobs.
Despite these benefits, it is sometimes easy to overlook water consumption. Many people drink a glass of water in the morning and believe that is sufficient. However, there is a quick tip to ensure we consume more water.
Before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, drink either one half (1/2) to one glass of water. If drinking a full glass is too difficult, then drink one half (1/2) of a glass. This will allow you to fuel your body with what it needs and also keep your stomach fairly fully during your meal. You will consume less food, and in turn, manage your calories which helps with weight loss.
2. Eat Fat- Yes, Fat
We are told that fat makes you, well, fat. Somehow, during our lives, we are led to believe that consuming fat is a negative thing for our bodies. However, consuming the right fats helps improve your health. Consuming the right fats helps you lose more fat, provides more mental focus, and even serves to relieve aches and pains.
Where are good fats found? Good fats can be found in the following: Salmon, anchovies, sardines, tuna, walnuts, flaxseeds and peanuts.
Should you eat these every day? Of course not. So, our quick tip is this: consume a good fat item 2-3x per week.
By consuming a good fat item 2-3x per week, it is not too much to be overwhelming, but it is also enough to stay in the back of your mind. Let the good fats roll!
We've all heard exercise is very important to a healthy lifestyle. This post is not designed to re-hash those arguments in favor of exercising. I am not aware of many people who would claim exercise is a negative thing.
However, exercise is like picking up after yourself at home. You pick up a single glass here or a shirt there, and you at times feel likes it is a small step to the greater task of cleaning the house. However, overtime, it adds up.
Exercise is no different. Many people claim that they cannot exercise because they are tired. However, often, you are tired because you don't exercise.
What can you do? Try to find 2-3 times per week to, minimally, walk for 30 minutes. Sure, you can do more rigorous exercise, but this routine will help you achieve many of the benefits of exercising without feeling like you are cleaning the entire house everyday: overwhelmed!
4. Moderation, but Cheat, Occasionally
Finally, we cannot discuss a healthy lifestyle without a brief mentioning of actual dieting and a little splurging.
You've heard that everything in moderation is not a bad thing. Note, that it is "not a bad thing," but is it a "good thing?" Maybe.
In reality, we just need to focus on the spirit of that phrase. The purpose of that phrase is to allow us to feel comfortable enjoying dishes that we crave. We all have foods we really enjoy, but they may not be the healthiest for our health. So, yes, occasionally, if you want to enjoy some food that would otherwise be off limits, then you should do so. Just don't take it to the extreme.
What is the extreme?
We recommend enjoying a dish of your choice, in moderation a couple of times per week. This relaxed approach helps you feel comfortable if you enjoy food more than 1-2x per week, but it does not give you a green light for a full week's worth of treats.
What do you do the other times?
Your daily food diet is really a topic for another day, but I will leave you with a few recommendations: (1) if you cannot enunciate the ingredients, it probably should not go in your body, (2) if you cannot grow it, then you should limit it, (3) if the shelf life is longer than a climate season, then perhaps we should rethink our decision.
What does this boil down to? Greens, fresh fruits, healthy fats, water, and if you want, some meats.
These 4 tips can help you stay focused and well prepared for a healthy lifestyle, despite our chaotic life schedules. Make these changes and watch your body feel better, brain feel more focused, and health improve.
